With iPhone or apps

If you want smooth charging without lag, take a break from your iPhone.

We know it’s hard to stay away from Instagram and Snapchat, but it could cause your phone to reach peak performance faster.

It can also kick you out of your social media habit — so it’s a double win.

Also, if possible, try not to have long phone calls while your phone is charging, as this type of activity only serves to slow down the process.

Download in background

Since iOS 7, select apps support a useful feature called Background App Refresh.

This essentially allows them to browse for new content even if you’re not actively using it.

You can limit this option to Wi-Fi to save on mobile data, but it’s also handy to turn it off entirely when charging your device.

This can help save battery juice/

Here’s how: Open Settings > tap General > Background app refresh > Select the Background app refresh option.

You can now disable the feature entirely by selecting “Off” or selectively turn it off below for the listed apps.

To turn it on, just follow the steps above and turn it back on when you’re done charging.

Using the wrong charger

Apple doesn’t make it easy on itself with the number of chargers it offers.

Your iPhone comes with a full-size USB to Lightning cable, which can then be plugged into a charger and plugged into an outlet or port on your Mac.

From the two, the rapid charging path leads via the power grid.

But to make life even more difficult, Apple is also offering newer iPhone owners (everything beyond the iPhone 8) a fast charging option via the £19 USB-C to Lightning cable and £49 USB-C power adapter .

The plug is sold separately but can apparently juice the latest flagships to 50 per cent in just 30 minutes.

If your device is still charging slowly, Apple recommends checking the charger for damage, such as cracks or bent pins.

You should also make sure the charging port on the bottom of your iPhone is clean and free of dirt or debris.

And if you’re using a third-party charging cable, make sure it has the “Made for iPhone” label—otherwise it might not work.
