An anonymous woman recently promoted at her job was furious after her mother tried to suggest that a better job would make it harder for her to “get married”.
The woman took to Reddit to vent her frustration after the interview, saying that while her father was “over the moon” to hear about her new position — which comes with better pay — her mother was less than excited they seem to think it will make them “less attractive” to potential dates.
in the her postThe woman also said she’s desperate to find someone to settle down with soon, and while she knows her job should never be tied to their relationship in this way, her mother’s words play in her head.
She captioned her post, “I recently got a promotion and my mom thinks boys will like me even less now.”

And she added: “I recently got a promotion, a better job title, better pay. I told my dad and he was over the moon, said he was proud of me. My mother, on the other hand, said, ‘How are you? are you going to get married now?’.
“I think she’s afraid guys will find me less attractive because they can’t keep up or have to make as much, or I’ll have to reconsider marrying someone who’s older and doing a pretty good career. I don’t even know at this point.
“My mom, along with my extended family, tried to set me up with guys in our area, but none of them really caught my eye.
“I’m looking to get married next year, but now I feel like this promotion will set me back and/or add another layer of ‘complexity.’ My mind is a mess but maybe I think too much.”
Commenters on the post were quick to reassure the woman that there are plenty of men who aren’t “intimidated” by their job title, and many of them said if someone doesn’t like the fact that she’s been promoted, then they probably aren’t anyway someone she wants to date.
One person said: “There are many men who have a secure manhood and are not intimidated if their partner makes more money than they do. You don’t want to marry a man who is intimidated by a successful woman. It’s your life and who cares, you’re doing what’s best for you.”
While another added: “Your success should be celebrated! And any man intimidated by your success isn’t worth your time at all.”
And a third wrote: “Don’t think too much, you’re probably flabbergasted. Who thinks like that? Be proud of yourself and enjoy your success. A good man will accept you for who you are and what you bring to the table.”
