France have made it to the semi-finals for the first time at a European Championship, but now they face a tall order to beat Germany if they are to win Euro 2022.
In fact, they have never reached the final of a major tournament in the history of the women’s team – fourth place at the 2011 World Cup and the London Olympics a year later remain their best accomplishments.
After the elimination of holders Netherlands in the quarter-finals, their optimism should be through the roof – but Germany have been rock solid so far, winning every game without conceding and hoping to add to their own roll of honor.
They have won two World Cups and eight Euro titles and were a dominant force in the ’90s and 2000s.
