Oscars 2022: Will Smith apologizes for slapping Chris Rock
Will Smith has finally apologized for his behavior during the Oscars and admitted he was “out of line”.
The 53-year-old actor made headlines for all the wrong reasons during Sunday night’s prestigious Academy Awards when he stormed the stage to punch Chris Rock in the face after the comedian made a joke about Will’s wife Jada Pinkett’s hair.
Just minutes later, the actor won his first-ever Oscar for his portrayal of Richard Williams, father of tennis superstars Serena and Venus Williams, in the critically acclaimed drama King Richard.
But his historic victory was marred by his violent and shocking behavior and Will has now issued a submissive statement finally apologizing to Chris for hitting him on stage.

“Violence in all its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at the Oscars last night was unacceptable and inexcusable,” he began.
Will said he reacted badly to Chris’ joke about Jada’s shaved head because she suffers from alopecia – but cameras caught the Men In Black star laughing at the gag just before jumping on stage.
“Jokes at my expense are part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s health was too much for me and I reacted emotionally,” Will explained.
“I want to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I’m embarrassed and my actions were no indication of the man I want to be. In a world of love and kindness there is no place for violence,” he continued.

During his emotional acceptance speech at the Oscars on Sunday, he apologized to the Academy and his fellow contestants, but Will handed organizers another olive branch as he hopes to be invited back to the bash next year.
“I also want to apologize to the academy, the show’s producers, all contestants and all viewers around the world,” he added.
Serena and Venus were in the audience watching as Will accepted the Oscar for playing their father in the film, and Will also addressed them as he apologized for his violent outburst that overshadowed what would have been a momentous occasion should be.
“I would like to apologize to the Williams family and my King Richard family. I deeply regret that my behavior has marred an otherwise great journey for all of us,” he concluded.
“I’m a work in progress. Sincerely, Will.”.
