Will the MCU be imbued with Scarlet Witch’s rich X-Men history?

Created in 1964 by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, Wanda Maximoff debuted in “X-Men” #4. But like her entry into the MCU, she’s far from the Wanda that fans will know and love. Wanda began her comic book journey as a villain, fighting against the heroes alongside her brother Pietro (aka the super speed Quicksilver). In this case, there’s no army of robots and Wanda doesn’t harbor a personal grudge against Tony Stark – the twins are members of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, aiding Magneto’s plot for world domination.

Instead of fighting for their deep faith in their philosophy, Wanda and Pietro are bound to the evil side because they owe Magneto their lives. When he first met the twins, he saved them from a mob of superstitious villagers who believed Wanda was a witch. From then on, Magneto would feel guilty that the twins were on his side. But the manipulation only lasts so long. When Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver started seeing things from the X-Men POV, they no longer wanted to play any part in Magneto’s fight to have mutants rule over humans. They escaped, giving up Magneto’s career and joining the Avengers. And so begins the decades Scarlet Witch becomes a hero and fights as an Avenger to save the world.

Over time, a lot of Wanda and Pietro’s story will be tweaked for future adventures – including their powers. At first, Wanda’s ability to be transformed into magic changed the probability of mimicking magic. Later in the comics, her powers were revealed in the form of actual magic, including a complete reality distortion that made Wanda one of the most powerful beings in Marvel Comics.
