Created by “Rogue One” co-writer Tony Gilroy, “Andor” is about Cassian’s origins as much as the Rebel Alliance’s origins. The series begins 5 years before “Rogue One”, at which point Cassian is more of a rogue focused on his own survival than a freedom fighter willing to sacrifice his life to defeat. Empire. Similarly, in her interview with Ryan, Arjorna alludes to Cassian and Bix having a shared history filled with tension due to Cassian’s shady behavior.
What about romance? In the immortal sayings of Alden Ehrenreich, It’s very complicated. Arjona explains:
“I think it’s a bit… I don’t even know how to respond, really. But I think the second you meet them, you understand that they’ve been through a lot. There’s so much to do. The history between them is two. There’s trust that’s been broken and rebuilt. And you can feel it right away, knowing Cassian, even if you’ve seen ‘Rogue One.’
Another setback in their relationship was Cassian’s habit of disappointing Bix “because he always walked away,” Arjona noted. But even if the pair were able to function through their collective baggage, Arjona said that Bix knew on some level that Cassian was “destined for something bigger than himself.” She added:
“So I think when you meet both of you, you get the feeling that time isn’t on their side. And there’s no time to worry or think about romance. Everyone is at the peak of a relationship. revolution. There’s a lot of other stuff going on about that that’s really important. But I don’t think time is on their side.”
Ah, that’s life in the “Star Wars” galaxy. Even more heartbreaking when “Andor” premieres on September 21, 2022, on Disney+.
