The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have said their thoughts are with Deborah James and her family after donating an undisclosed amount to the podcast host’s fundraising initiative.
Ames, 40, known online as Bowel Babe after campaigning to raise awareness of colon cancer, has raised more than £3million after setting up a Just Giving page.
The former principal was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016 and has kept her more than 500,000 Instagram followers updated on her treatments.
Every once in a while someone wins the heart of the nation with their zest for life and their stubborn desire to give back to society. @bowelbabe is one of those special people. Her tireless efforts to raise awareness of colon cancer and end the stigma surrounding treatment are inspirational. (1/2)

In an Instagram post, she said she doesn’t know how long she’s been gone and that while the past six months have been “heartbreaking,” she’s been surrounded by “so much love” and had “no regrets.”
James wrote of her decision to start the Bowelbabe Fund: “I always knew there was one thing I always wanted to do before I die.
“Over the years I’ve always raised so much awareness and money for the charities closest to me. @cr_uk @royalmarsden @bowelcanceruk
“As a result, the @bowelbabefund is formed and I would be happier for nothing than for you to help it thrive. Please visit bowelbabe.org for all information and to donate (link in bio).”
The Just Giving page says it is “raising money to fund clinical trials and research into personalized medicine for cancer patients and to support campaigns to raise awareness of colorectal cancer.”
