The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wowed an enthusiastic crowd with their dance moves as they were welcomed to a village in Belize today.

Prince William, 39, gave a little shimmy as they were treated to the welcome dance in the village of Hopkins – known as the happiest village in the country.

But it was Kate, 39, in a blue dress, who got on the dance floor first, cutting shapes with nine local schoolchildren from the Garifuna Cultural Centre.

Future King Wills seemed a little hesitant before being asked to show his moves in the local ‘Punta’ style dance, as groups of children cheered him on as Belizean flags were waved.

And it wasn’t long before Wills started dancing with local organizer Laura Cacho, 57.

Soon they were holding hands and spinning to the music while the locals screamed with delight.

She said afterwards: “It was so exciting. A dream becomes true.

“It was fun that he’s a good dancer and I told him he had the Garifuna culture in him.

“He did the punta dance better than me.

“He shook his waist to the music. He had a beautiful rhythm. It was a pleasure for me.

“Kate was also excellent and definitely has the Garifuna culture in her.

“They shook their hips like it’s nobody’s business.”

Kate and William were treated to dancing and food from the local Garifuna community in Hopkins on the Caribbean coast.

It was a change of atmosphere for the royals, who were forced to cancel a trip to a farm after locals protested their visit.

Kate, wearing a blue floral dress, and William removed their jackets and ties to watch nine youngsters, aged nine to 15, perform four elaborate dance routines.

They were also offered plantain coconut broth, hudutu and a sweet sava porridge called Sahau with Belizean celebrity chef Sean Kuylen.

Mamma G, also known as Joan Gloria, pastor of the National Garifuna Council, helped provide the dancing children and said: “We welcome them both. It is a honor. We welcome everyone.

“We are the happiest village in Belize. Nobody who comes here is sad.

“We’re about love, respect and welcoming people with open arms.”

Hopkins – a population of 1,000 descendants of a shipwrecked slave ship – is regularly voted the friendliest village in all of Belize.

Earlier today, the couple had to work hard for their sweet treats during a visit to a cocoa farm.

Kate tried her hand at grinding nibs, crushed cocoa beans, a back-breaking job traditionally done by women in rural communities, during her visit to the Che ‘il chocolate farm in Belize.

As the future queen also watched her husband pounding away with a volcanic rock mortar and pestle, she said: “The smell of the chocolate is amazing.”

William even joked about quitting his job as working king, asking Julio Saqui, the owner of the family-run chocolate company, “Do you take apprentices? Can I come and work for you, that’s my thing.”
