William Kuenzel, who claimed innocence from Death Row, dies aged 60

Mr. Kuenzel asked the US Supreme Court to review the case, and in the court brief filed in 2013, Mr. Morgenthau, who later retired as DA Manhattan, along with Mr. Gil Garcetti and E. Michael McCann, former district attorneys for Los Angeles and Milwaukee, respectively, argued that new evidence that Mr. Kuenzel did not have required a new trial.

“Kuenzel’s new evidence ruins the prosecution’s case,” They write“Make it clear that any reasonable jury could have a reasonable doubt” of Mr. Kuenzel’s guilt.

The court denied his request for a review without comment. In 2016, when Mr. Kuenzel appealed again to the Supreme Court, Mr. Meese argues in his friend’s own court synopsis, “This court should allow review and ensure that the convincing constitutional claims of a very likely indeed innocent man are resolved on the basis.”

The court again, without comment, dismissed the petition, effectively ending Mr. Kuenzel’s legal options. If he didn’t die, he was eventually scheduled for execution.

William Ernest Kuenzel was born on January 11, 1962 in Rockford, Ala. He was raised by his mother, Barbara Kuenzel, and stepfather, Glenn Kuenzel, whose military service led them to move to different military bases.
