Willow Smith says she loves her family for “being human” but because of their celebrity status in the media their frustrations are “sometimes unacceptable”.
The musician says the scandalous incident at this year’s Oscars – in which her father Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock on stage – did not derail her own creativity.
It happened shortly after Smith apologized to Rock again in his first public statement in three months.

In a 5-minute video posted on Instagram, the actor answered a series of questions from the social network about the March 27 incident, in which he took to the stage after a joke by Rock about the incident. Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia areata.
Willow addressed the issue in an interview with US media outlet Billboard about her upcoming album Coping Mechanism.
“I consider my whole family to be human, and I love and accept them for all their humanity,” she said.
“Because of the position we take, our humanity is sometimes not accepted and we have to act in a way that is not conducive to a healthy human life and not conducive to being honest.”
She added that the media fiasco after the Oscars incident didn’t “stoned me as much as my own inner demons”.
Her father was banned from all Academy events or programs for 10 years because of his “unprecedented” behavior.
Two days after the incident, he issued a public apology to Rock and the Oscars production team, saying he had an “emotional” reaction to the joke and that “violence of any kind” consciousness is poisonous and destructive”.
Pinkett Smith also called for a “healing season” on her own social media post.
