Volkswagen is the biggest seller of battery electric (BEV) and PHEV (plug-in) cars in the country, according to new research.
Figures from Cartell.ie and CarsIreland show Volkswagen leading the way with 3,701 sales from January to the end of September.
Kia is second with 3,058 and Hyundai third with 2,885. They are followed by BMW with 1,801, while the main competitors Mercedes (1,569), Volvo (1,306) and Tesla with 1,108 make up the rest of the field for the purposes of this study.
The best-selling BEV model in the country is the Volkswagen ID.4, with the VW ID.3 also in the top-5 best-selling models year-to-date, the data shows.
The Tesla Model 3 takes third place in the individual model charts.
What you might find interesting is that the data shows that BMW is the most imported EV and PHEV (cars only).
And buyers prefer the 530e, making it the most popular import all-around.
A total of more than 1,000 BMW PHEVs have been imported to date.
