Wolves are set to offer Ruben Neves a new deal but boss Bruno Lage admits he will be a wanted man.
The midfielder is in contract negotiations with the club but Lage fears he could still be lured away from Molineux.
Neves’ current contract expires in 2024 and he has been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United.
Lage said: “Of course he’s suggested by us, but the way he’s playing I can see other teams looking for him too.
“You never know what can happen. There could be a big team with a big offer and we would have to analyze what is better for us and for the player.
“What is important is that it is very difficult to find a player like him. We used to call it a defensive midfielder, but now it’s a central midfielder, a type that can defend and attack. He can do both. He can score goals and provide assists. It’s very difficult to find.
“From my side, he knows my opinion – I want the best for his career. If he chooses to stay with us, we will surely be happier and stronger. But this is football and you never know.
“When you see the level he is playing at and the challenge we are giving him to be more consistent, he is a huge loss for us at the moment.
“I know he’s having a fantastic season. He’s back to what he did in the past and that’s the kind of players that we can have with us if we want to build a good team – great players that can take us to another level.”
Neves is out until May with a knee injury and will miss Saturday’s Aston Villa derby visit.
Wolves are also without the suspended Raul Jimenez after his dismissal in the 3-2 defeat by Leeds before the international break.
Nelson Semedo is back from a hamstring injury, with Ki-Jana Hoever (hamstring) sidelined for the hosts.
