Woman (28) found dead in Cork flat arrested as man

Gardai have identified the woman found dead in a Cork flat as 28-year-old Bruna Fonseca.
s Fonseca was originally from South America but had lived in Cork for a number of years.
Detectives are treating her death as suspicious as there is evidence she suffered a violent death.
Gardaí investigating her death have arrested a man.
The man in his late 20s – believed to be known to Ms Fonseca – was arrested this morning and is currently being held at Bridewell Garda Station, Cork, under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
Ms Fonseca was spotted at an apartment on Liberty Street, just off North Main Street, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Gardaí and the emergency services were alerted to the incident around 6.30am and she was found unresponsive in an apartment.
The property is right on Cork city center and not far from the Cork Courthouse on Washington Street and Bridewell Train Station.
Gardaí and paramedics were at the scene, but she was pronounced dead a short time later.
The crime scene was sealed off immediately to allow for a full forensic and technical investigation.
Gardaí will begin an investigation into CCTV surveillance camera footage of business premises in the area to identify any movement to and from the affected premises over the past 24 hours.
Ms. Fonseca’s body will be kept pending a full autopsy by Deputy State Pathologist Dr. Margot Bolster transferred to Cork University Hospital.
Garda sources stressed that the results of the post-mortem will now determine the nature of their investigation.
However, the death is treated as suspicious.
Gardaí have also begun house-to-house investigations in the area to determine if anyone heard or saw anything suspicious over New Year’s Eve and into the wee hours of New Year’s Day.
There is a large number of homes and apartments in the area – so investigators believe there must have been a significant number of people in the area in the last 24 hours.
A large number of revelers were also in the area last night as people celebrated New Year’s Eve, with a range of pubs and restaurants in the general area.
Gardaí also want to confirm the last known movements of the deceased.
The investigations are ongoing
