Woman, 70, flown to hospital after road accident in Laois

A woman in her 70s has been hospitalized with serious injuries after a traffic accident in Co Laois.

The incident happened in O’Connell Square, Mountmellick this morning and the woman is said to be in “serious but stable condition”.

“Around 9am a van collided with a pedestrian in O’Connell Square. The pedestrian, a woman in her 70s, was taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar for treatment of her injuries. She is currently in a serious but stable condition,” said a Garda spokesman.

“No other injuries have been reported at this time.”

A technical investigation of the crime scene has now been completed and Gardaí are appealing to all witnesses to the incident to come forward.

All road users who have been in the area and have camera footage, including dash cam footage, are asked to provide it to Gardaí.
