Woman, 80, dies after hit and run in Galway on Friday night

A woman in her 80s died after a hit-and-run accident in Oranmore, Co. Galway on Friday night.
The pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by a car around 5.05pm on Old Limerick Road in Oranmore, Co. Galway.
The driver of the car did not stay at the scene of the crime.
The pedestrian was taken to Galway University Hospital for treatment. She died from her injuries on Friday evening.
A technical investigation of the crime scene by Forensic Collision Investigators was completed last night but Old Limerick Road remains closed at this time.
It is expected to reopen later in the morning.
Gardaí are appealing to all road users who may have camera footage, including dash cam, who were driving in the Oranmore area between 4.30pm and 5.30pm to provide Gardaí with such footage.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, Gardaí said.
