Woman advertises TENT for rent to strangers for £400 a month on her balcony because she’s too glamorous

One woman raised an eyebrow after posting an advert for renting a tent on her balcony as a shared room for the shocking £400 a month.

The 27-year-old, identified only by her name Sandra, was looking for an apartmentmate to sublet her Zurich apartment “with a view of the starry sky” to reduce rent.

But far from offering an actual room inside the flat, she’s offering a small tent for two on her uncovered balcony for a salary of £402 a month.

According to online ads, waterproof tents built on an insulated mat can be rented at no additional cost, such as heating.

The advertisement also clearly states that mattresses and pillows are also available upon request.

Photos show the small tent squished on a thin, roofless concrete balcony that appears to be on the first floor of a building.

The tent comes with a bright pink folding cot and a single pillow, which means new tenants will be sleeping a few inches from the cold stone floor.

Thankfully, the lease includes the shared use of the kitchen, living room and bathroom, to enjoy the stay outside of the frigid Swiss outdoors.

Sandra says she “wants to live with someone else and lower my rent a bit”.

She also said that she wanted to give someone a chance to live in Zurich on the cheap.

“That’s why I came up with the idea of the tent,” she said.

“In this city, the situation of people who want to find an apartment is very difficult. Finding an affordable room to rent is almost impossible.”

Sandra says she’s received interest from potential sublet owners, as some of them see the idea a little differently,

“Most of the students thought the idea was great. Many people wrote that it was something different.”

While she thinks the cold winter in Zurich could put a few people off work, she’s happy to wait until spring to find a new tenant.

“I realize that it can be a bit difficult to find a tenant in the middle of winter. Especially when the balcony is not covered.

“If someone doesn’t want to move in until spring, that’s fine with me too.”

Attorney Beat Rohrer said it was not possible to simply offer a tent on a balcony as a living space.

Although in principle it is not strictly prohibited once the basic conditions set forth by Swiss law have been met.

He said there is a right to light as well as a right to protection from noise and fire, which will have to be proven to the local authorities.

If the tent remains in place for an extended period of time, approval from the local building permitting authority is also required.

The attorney also said that the landlord’s consent was also required before Sandra could sublet any part of her rental property.

It is not clear at this time whether Sandra will consider all of these measures, and the ad is likely to be investigated by local authorities.
