A distraught mother has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after video footage allegedly showing her eating her family’s hamster was posted online.

The disturbing clip was uploaded to Facebook and appears to show the rodent being swallowed in exchange for crack cocaine.

The woman is first shown allegedly killing the poor pet that belonged to her daughter.

She then tilts her head back and devours the creature while clutching a bottle of water – reportedly performing the evil stunt in exchange for drugs.

Lincolnshire Police confirmed a Lincolnshire woman was arrested Thursday as part of an RSPCA inquiry.

The parent was released but is still under police investigation.

A police spokesman said: “We have arrested a 39-year-old woman on suspicion of animal cruelty after a harrowing video was posted on social media showing an act involving a hamster.

“The Grantham woman was arrested by our officers yesterday (June 23) following an inquiry led by the RSPCA.

“She was released under investigation and we will continue to assist the RSPCA in their investigation.”

A spokesman for the RSPCA encouraged anyone who comes across the horrifying video on social media to report it to the appropriate platform.

They told people not to share disturbing footage online.

“This is extremely disturbing video and we want to reassure the public that we are investigating and working closely with the police,” the organization said.

“Please do not call us about this video unless you have first-hand information about the incident that could assist an investigation, as it could prevent emergency calls about animals in distress from reaching us.

“If you see this video on social media, please report it to the platform immediately.

“Please do not share or comment as it increases the likelihood that others will see and be distressed.” Woman arrested after video shows her 'eating family hamster in exchange for crack'
