Woman falls 3000ft from Snowdonia mountain to her death in front of horrified climbers

The tragic incident happened Thursday afternoon and despite the best efforts of Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue, the woman – believed to be in her 50s and from Cheshire – did not survive

A woman has fallen to her death from 3,000ft while climbing a mountain in Snowdonia.

The tragic incident happened on Thursday afternoon on the Glyder Fach.

The woman, believed to be in her 50s and from Cheshire, fell on the mountain’s chasm route at an altitude of 3,261 feet Snowdonia Summit.

She was found unconscious as climbers nearby tried to help her before she was flown to the mountain rescue team’s base. North Wales Live Reports.

The Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue was alerted to the incident at 2:30 p.m. and they were dragged onto a Coast Guard helicopter, but tragically, air ambulance paramedics were unable to rescue them.

The woman was climbing with a partner at the time, who assisted her descent after the incident and was assisted by members of mountain rescue.

In a statement, Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue said: “The second call of the day came at 2:30pm to reports of a fallen climber on Glyder Fach.

“A lead climber fell on the Chasm Route and was reported when unconscious climbers nearby rushed to help and the Coast Guard helicopter hoisted the victim up, but unfortunately she did not survive.

“The climbers then helped her partner back down the climb to the waiting team members and she was looked after at the base.

“The team’s thoughts are with the victim’s family, friends and climbing partner. The team would also like to thank the support climbers for all their help.”

Around the same time, volunteer rescue workers were called to a woman in her 30s who was descending the tricky west face from the top of the 3,000-foot Tryfan and got stuck at an infamous accident site.

The Coast Guard helicopter crew spotted the woman and the rescue team used ropes to rescue her.
