The body of a woman found dead in her home may have lain undiscovered for up to four weeks, neighbors fear.

Kirstie Anne Ellis, 35, was found dead at her home in Leeds on Friday afternoon by police officers responding to concerns about her safety.

A man and woman, both 35, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody awaiting questioning by detectives from the West Yorkshire Police Homicide Team.

Shocked neighbors in the quiet cul-de-sac said they feared her body may have lain there undetected for a month.

A woman on the street, who asked not to be named, said officers had been knocking on doors and asking neighbors if they had seen Kirstie in the past few weeks.

She said: “Two weeks ago the police came here and asked if we had seen them in the last two weeks.

“She could have been dead in there for a good four weeks.”

The neighbor said police also showed residents a photo of a man they wanted to speak to, but did not recognize him.

She added: “Police said there was a lot of mail piling up behind her door. I don’t know why they didn’t kick down the door then.

“Everyone kind of keeps to themselves and we never really spoke to her.

“I never really saw that she had friends around or had anyone visiting.

“I wasn’t there on Friday but when I got home I saw all the police. It was a shock, it’s a really quiet street. You just don’t expect that.”

Another neighbor told Leeds lives: “Obviously everyone is very shocked by what happened to this poor woman.

“We don’t know much about what happened yet and it’s usually such a quiet little street.

“I’ve only spoken to her about garbage collection once or twice and I don’t think anyone here even knew her, to be honest, even her name.

“I know it’s a cliché, but she kept it to herself.

“Police were at the same house a week or two ago for a missing persons inquiry and I don’t know if what happened is related in any way.”

Police and forensic teams continue to work on the property and conduct patrols in the area.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police have opened a murder investigation after the body of a woman was found at an address in Leeds.
