A woman was left horrified after discovering her friend only washes her bra once a year.
TikTok user Desyr, who posts under @desyr.reviews, asked internet users how often to wash bras to find out what’s normal.
Sharing her surprise, Desyr said: “Dude, I won’t say names, once said on the group chat that she washes her bra once a year.
“I’m just curious now, how do people usually wash their bras?
“I need to know what kind of standard a woman is. What is the average?
“What’s the most common bra washing time since we don’t all seem the same?”
Many were split in the comments, with some saying they wash after every wear, while others saying they do it less often.
One woman said: “When will it end could be a week could be a month could be a year.”
One guy even wrote: “Actually never saw my wifes bra in the washer or dryer and we’ve been together for 8 years.”
One of the biggest things to consider when it comes to how often to wash your bra is how oily your skin is and how much sweat you produce on a daily basis.
If you’re not sure how often you should wash your bra, don’t worry because we’ve consulted the experts for some answers.
Laundry specialist Deyan Dimitrov, CEO of Laundrysays you should wash your bra after three wears, or once to twice a week if you have other types of bras that are changing.
“Washing less can cause some nasty germs and bacteria to build up that can cause odors,” he says.
“Leaving it on any longer will cause bacteria, sweat and dead skin to build up and can cause your bra to smell and can even cause body breakouts.
“Not washing bras can even lead to fungus and yeast building up in the fibers!”
The laundry expert says you should ideally wash your bras by hand, but they can be put in the washing machine on a gentle/hand wash cycle.
However, Deyan recommends that if you have an expensive bra or a bra that’s made of silk, lace, or has a lot of detail, it’s better to hand wash it.
He explains that you can use non-biological detergents and cool water to hand wash bras.
If you don’t wash your bra often enough, all the dead skin cells, oil, and sweat trapped under your bra will form a breeding ground for bacteria and yeast.

Simply soak it for about 5-10 minutes, paying attention to any stains or problem areas, then rinse under cool running water.
Meanwhile, cleaning expert Joyce French from Home page Also give her advice on how to keep your bras clean and how often you should wash them.
Joyce explains that bras should only be worn 2-3 times before washing.
“If you don’t wash your bra regularly, all of the dead skin cells, oil and sweat trapped under your bra form a breeding ground for bacteria and yeast,” she says.
“Not washing regularly can lead to stains and unpleasant odors on your bra – as well as skin irritation, rashes, or localized skin infections caused by yeast or bacteria.
“The best temperature to wash your bra is 40 degrees to keep the bra clean for another wear.”
