A woman in her 60s has been killed and three others are fighting for their lives after a horrific accident on the A470 in North Wales.

Ambulance services rushed to the collision between two vehicles between Dolwyddelan and Betws-y-Coed around 4.45pm on Thursday.

The crash prompted a large response from emergency responders, including two Welsh Air Ambulances and three ground vehicles, they reported North WalesLive.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service (WAS) confirmed they had received a call at 4.47pm and several crews had been dispatched.

North Wales Police closed the road for several hours while firefighters and ambulances worked at the scene.

The Welsh air ambulances G-WROL and G-WOBR landed at the scene of the accident at 17.12 and 17.29 respectively. Both aircraft left the scene at 7.30pm and flew east, where they landed at Royal Stoke University Hospital, which is home to a large trauma center for serious injuries.

In a statement released Thursday evening, police said a cream Renault Captur and a beige vintage Daimler were involved in the crash.

A 60-year-old passenger who was in the Daimler was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the male driver of the Daimler and the passenger in the Renault were flown to Stoke hospital by air ambulance. The driver of the Renault was taken to a hospital in Stoke by rural ambulance.

Sergeant Jason Diamond of the Roads Policing Unit is appealing for witnesses.

He said: “Unfortunately, this is now being investigated as a fatal road accident and our thoughts remain with everyone involved.

“We believe the Renault was heading towards the Betws-y-Coed area while the Daimler was heading in the opposite direction towards Dolwyddelan and I urge anyone who may have seen either vehicle driving before the collision or anyone it may have been traveling on the A470 who may have dash cam footage to contact us immediately.”

Anyone with information that may assist in the investigation is urged to contact Roads Policing Unit officers via live web chat or by phone on 101 and quote incident number B071845.
