Woman killed in horrific crash after BMW driver hit two pedestrians during police chase

A woman has been killed after she was hit by a BMW driver in Manchester during a police chase.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning and she was one of two pedestrians hit by a fleeing driver.

The driver had previously been caught speeding on the highway before the incident, Manchester Evening News reported .

Despite the best efforts of emergency services at the scene, a 71-year-old woman was pronounced dead on the A34 near Parrs Wood.

A 64-year-old man was also hit by a bullet and remains hospitalized in critical condition.

A 35-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

The normally busy road was closed in both directions while emergency services dealt with the incident.

The driver was previously caught speeding in an M60 and after following the vehicle, police attempted to stop the vehicle with an emergency device on Stockport Road.

However, the driver continued toward the intersection of Kingsway and Wilmslow Road, where the vehicle then hit two pedestrians.

The road was closed all night in both directions and reopened shortly before 7am on Sunday.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 12.20am this morning (Sunday 20/2), a patrol officer saw a black BMW speeding in the M60.

Officers monitoring the vehicle attempted to stop the vehicle with emergency equipment on Stockport Road, but the driver continued toward the intersection of Kingsway and Wilmslow, where the BMW subsequently collided with two pedestrians. pedestrians are walking along the sidewalk.

“Despite the best efforts of police and paramedics, a 71-year-old woman died at the scene. A 64-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“The incident was referred to the GMP Professional Standards Branch by the Independent Office of Police Conduct, as per usual policy.

“A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.”

Police Sergeant Phil Shaw, of GMP’s Serious Collisions Investigations Unit, said: “Tragically, a woman has lost her life as a result of this incident and our thoughts are with her family at this time. this.

“A full investigation has been launched and we hope that there may be some witnesses with dashcam footage that can assist in the investigation.”
