A woman found around £28,000 in a sofa she bought on Craigslist.

Vicky Umodu, from Colton, California, discovered the wads of money in one of the pillows after finding the couches while looking for furniture for her new home. reported ABC7.

Umodo was delighted to find her.

“I scrolled down and saw free items,” Umodu said.

“So I clicked on it and the first thing that came to mind was this family who wanted to give away a sofa and everything in their bedroom. I said it might be a gimmick, so I called her.”

It was true – the sellers were unaware of the furniture’s hidden cash load and gave the sofas away for free after the death of a loved one and the eviction of their home.

“I just moved in and I don’t have anything in my house,” Umodo explained. “I was so excited so we picked it up and brought it in.”

But shortly after returning home with the furniture, Umodo noticed that there was something odd in one of the pillows.

“I thought it was a heat pad,” she said. But when she opened the pillow, Umodo found several large bank deposit envelopes stuffed with cash, many of which appeared to be in the form of $100 bills.

“I just told my son, come on, come on! I screamed, this is money! I have to call the guy,” Umodo said. Without thinking, she decided to return all the money to the family.

$36,000 was found in large envelopes

“God has been kind to me and my children, they are all alive and well,” she said. “I have three beautiful grandchildren, so what can I ever ask of God?”

As a goodwill gesture, the Umodo family donated around £2,000 to buy a new fridge.

The family said they discovered other amounts of cash in the rest of the house, but only a few hundred pounds. Not sure why the deceased relative hid so much money in and around the house.
