A woman who prayed for those involved in a freeway crash after seeing footage on social media later found out that one of the victims was a relative.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, is a relative of Paul Ingram, who died alongside his friend Brian McFarlane in a freak accident as the couple were motorcycling along the M50 on the outskirts of Dublin last week.

The couple, who were on holiday from England, are believed to have accidentally collided before being hit by a passing truck while lying on the tarmac.

Footage of the crash circulated around the internet and the woman watched without realizing she was seeing a relative who was killed and said his family were only informed of the tragedy after videos were posted online.

She said in quotes reported by DublinLive : “Unfortunately, I saw the videos before I realized it was Paul.

“I was disgusted and sad and prayed for the poor families this happened to, then realized on Saturday morning it was my family.”

Mr Ingram, a widower from Moulton in Northampton, and Mr McFarlane, who lived in the village of Sutton Courtenay in Oxfordshire, were riding Harley Davison motorcycles when they were killed.

After accidentally colliding and falling onto the roadway, they lay helpless on the road and a truck driving behind them didn’t have a chance to avoid the friends and crashed into them.

Both men suffered horrific injuries and died instantly.

It is believed that Gardai had to use DNA technology to officially identify them.

Within minutes of the accident at 2:15 p.m. on the northbound lane, videos appeared online showing scenes of the accident.

Gardai’s investigation appealed to people not to share the clips. And Mr Ingram’s relative, whose wife Lesley died about five years ago, said last night the family was appalled by the videos.

She said the only consolation was that lifelong biker Mr. Ingram died doing what he loved.

She said: “Paul was a passionate cyclist. He was a horseman all his life.

“The only comfort the family will ever have is knowing that unfortunately he did what he loved.”

Gardai are still investigating the incident, which caused massive traffic jams on the busy highway for several hours.

Witnesses should call Lucan Garda Station on 01 6667300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
