Woman ‘pretty scared’ after spotting black cat ‘the size of a Great Dane’ in UK

The latest sighting of what is said to be a panther-like big cat roaming the fields of Yorkshire was yesterday by a woman who said she saw the best while crossing a bridge over a canal

Another big cat may have been spotted in the UK, and this one is “the size of a Great Dane” – sparking fears a dangerous animal may be roaming free.

Laura Page was “pretty scared” after spotting the giant black cat while out walking her nephew and the couple saw the animal crossing a bridge.

They walked into Barnby Dun, a village in Doncaster, Yorkshire and have not yet been able to figure out what they saw The Yorkshire Post reports.

Laura said she didn’t manage to snap a picture of the animal, but local residents said she wasn’t the first to have had such a sighting in the area.

Laura said: “It went over a bridge, we only had our eyes on it for about five seconds, it was like a little Great Dane.

“Only after we saw it did we think it was a big cat and a helicopter started circling, so god knows if that knew too.

“I was pretty scared, but my nephew wasn’t that scared. On the way back we told two ladies and they said we weren’t the first to say that.”

It follows a series of alleged sightings elsewhere in Yorkshire. Last February a strange creature was sighted by a walker in fields near Selby.

Steve Weston, who lives in the city, was walking home from work when he spotted a large black figure “stumbling” across the other side of a field.

“I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. It was completely bizarre,” he said at the time.

“When I saw it I was like, what on earth is that?” he added.

Steve said the animal was “way too big” to be a dog and said it didn’t have movements similar to any Animals that he has seen in the area before.

“It looked absolutely huge, it’s just inexplicable. It looked really muscular,” added Steve.

In 2016, a mysterious animal was sighted roaming the fields of Ryedale. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” said 46-year-old Michael Armitage.

North Yorkshire Police confirmed in 2010 that evidence suggested a panther-like creature could be responsible for an attack on a sheep near Ravensworth, Richmond.

All that was left of the sheep was their skeleton. The meat had been stripped from the remains of the sheep.

PC John Wilbor, Rural Crime Officer with North Yorkshire Police said at the time: “The evidence appears to be consistent with a possible big cat attack.”
