Woman ‘puts up her baby for adoption after sperm donor claims he’s Japanese when he’s actually Chinese’

A Japanese mother has put her child up for adoption after discovering her sperm donor was Chinese, reports say.

This Tokyo woman in her 30s is said to share one child with her husband but didn’t want another after discovering he had the genetic condition – so she decided to find a donor on social network.

The donor she chose claimed he was Japanese and graduated from the posh Kyoto University and they fought 10 times, the newspaper Tokyo Shimbun reported.

But after becoming pregnant in June 2019, the woman discovered the donor was actually Chinese.

To her horror, she learned he had also gone to another company.

When she found out, it was too late to have an abortion.

So she gave the child up for adoption.

She is now suing for fraud, citing “mental distress” caused by his lie for 330 million yen (£2.1 million).

According to the report, the woman’s lawyer said she decided to sue the sperm donor to prevent women from becoming victims of deception.

“In Japan, there is no public system or legal system for sperm donation,” he said.

Child welfare worker Mizuho Sasaki called the woman “shallow.”

She told VICE: “It is unacceptable to treat the child like an object.

“But I think it’s better to leave the child with someone who can be a good foster parent.”
