Woman reveals ‘genius’ way to avoid paying for expensive tourist attraction

A woman has revealed how she avoids paying for an expensive tourist destination while traveling around Europe.
Katie, from UK, shared a smart hack after visiting Italy – and everyone called her a genius.
Post a video of her TikTok account, she explains how she managed to avoid paying for a gondola ride around Venice – a popular thing for tourists, but can be very expensive.
She wrote: “Romanticise says the bin workers give you a boat tour of Venice because you don’t have €80 to spend on a gondola ride.”
The video shows her and her friend sitting on the iconic boat as it passes under a bridge, surrounded by garbage bags and cement bags.
Then she turned to show the two men behind them as they drove through the canals.
Her video has been viewed more than 1.5 million times with more than 200,000 people loving the advice – one said: “This is an icon.”
Another agreed, saying: “You know what, this is a real genius.”
Another wrote: “This will be us on our Wowcher vacation.”
Someone asked what the boat smelled of. Katie replied; “Not at all! I thought it was just sandbags and building materials.”
Not everyone agrees, with one adding: “I’d rather spend 80€.”
And one person said: “Venice seems like the only city in the world where a tour from the bin men can be romanticized.”
Katie explains in a follow-up video: “This is Alessandro and his dad, both of them are absolutely adorable and we went for a few drinks with them afterwards to say thank you.”
Tourists often complain about the high cost in Venice – in 2018 a group of tourists called the police after they was charged £970 for four dishes.
And another tourist was left behind after fuming charged £38 just for two coffees and two bottles of water.
Venice is also preparing to introduce a new fee from this year, where Tourists must book in advance and pay a daily fee to enter.
Visitors will have to pay €5 and go through a turnstile to enter the city.
If the city is too crowded, then the electric turnstiles will make it impossible for tourists to enter.
