As all of our household bills seem to be rising, you might be looking for tips and tricks on how to save energy.

And if you love drying your laundry in a tumble dryer instead of on a drying rack but are worried about the expense, then One Woman has a top hack for you.

A money tips blogger recently shared a post on how you can reduce the time you use your tumble dryer, which in turn could save some money from your bills.

To reduce the drying time required, all you have to do is throw in a towel.

Yes, really. As simple as that.

Posting on makemoneywithoutajob.com, the unnamed blogger explains: “This clever little clothes dryer hack involves placing a dry towel in your clothes dryer with your wet laundry.

“The towel absorbs moisture in your laundry and helps it dry faster – reducing the time it takes you to run your dryer and saving you money!

“There’s some debate about whether you need to remove the towel after 15-30 minutes. I’ve found my drying time decreases without having to remove the towel, but if this trick doesn’t work for you, try removing the towel after 15-30 minutes.”

There are three different types of tumble dryers – heat pump, vented and condenser dryers. Depending on what you have, the price of running will vary. However, it is estimated that on average a tumble dryer uses around 4.5kWh of energy per cycle and can cost between 50p and 75p an hour.

Exactly how much money this trick will save you is not clear from the blog post, but every little bit helps, especially since clothes dryers are one of the most energy-intensive appliances used in the home.

The tip proved a hit with media users, who have since claimed that this towel trick cut their drying time in half.

One person said, “I’ve been doing this for two weeks and it has cut drying time in half.”
