Rowan Ellis has shared her recipe for the ‘best hot chocolate of your life’ using cheap and simple ingredients – and people have praised the method as ‘top notch’.
Just when we thought winter was finally behind us, the UK was hit by a nasty cold spell this week, blanketing some areas snow and made us all grab our blankets and favorite hot drinks to keep us warm.
In a video posted at Rowan’s @heyrowanellis Account she said: “I’m back in the kitchen and back on my bull**t, let’s make the best hot chocolate of your life.

“I’ve been making this hot chocolate every night before bed for a week, and I highly recommend it if you too need a silly little treat to give your silly little human form as a reward for getting through the day.” to have .
“Let’s talk about the hot chocolate mix first. I’m sure there are purists out there who will say that to make hot chocolate you have to use melted chocolate. But no. If you can get a hot chocolate mix that works just as well as this happens, you don’t have to.
“I am of course talking about the Lidl hot chocolate mix.
“I realize this may sound like a joke to some people who don’t know how good Lidl is, but if you know, you know. The chocolate that Lidl makes is elite level and this hot chocolate mix is no exception.”
The secret to making the drink taste out of this world? A few controversial additives like coffee and salt.
Rowan added, “You’ll also need your flavor enhancers and flavor enhancers if you want them.
“This is the holy grail of flavor-enhancing chocolate. You can’t taste any of these in the actual drink, but they all serve to enhance the flavor of the chocolate itself.
“We have vanilla to add a little more complexity to the sweetness in the chocolate, salt to take the edge off that sweetness, and then a little bit of coffee or espresso.
“I don’t like coffee, but you can’t taste it. This isn’t like a mocha. If you don’t like coffee, don’t worry, you won’t be able to taste it. It just enhances the rich, dark, bitter notes of chocolate and makes them taste much more luxurious.”
The woman then says you can also add additional flavors you like, like peppermint essence, cinnamon, or a fancy syrup like you might see in a coffee shop.
To prepare the mix, Rowan fills her mug with milk to estimate the amount needed, then adds 3 to 4 heaped teaspoons of the Lidl hot chocolate mix to a saucepan.
Next, she adds a splash of milk to the pan and stirs it to create a paste, which helps eliminate “any dry spots or lumps” in the end result.
Rowan then adds the rest of the milk to the pan before adding a “tiniest pinch” of coffee, a “tiny pinch” of salt, a “touch” of vanilla, and “a little bit” of cinnamon.
She said, “And that’s it! Just make sure the mixture doesn’t simmer or boil. You just want it to be hot enough for you to drink.”
Commenters on the TikTok video were blown away by the delicious recipe, with many also praising Lidl as a “top notch” store.
One person said: “Needed a silly little treat when I saw this, wanted to do it right away, can confirm it’s awesome!” And made me soooo sleepy too.”
While another added: “Lidl is a top notch store.”
“I bought a Lidl hot chocolate last week and it’s to die for!” said a third.
