Kristina Kacheeva shared her trick to making skinny jeans fit you perfectly without going up a dress size — and all you have to do is put them in the wash
Finding a pair of jeans that fits perfectly can seem like an impossible task, and many of us know the pain of trying to squeeze into a pair of jeans that are just a tad too small.
But thanks to a woman on TikTok, we can now say goodbye to our worries as she came up with the perfect trick to stretch too tight jeans and make them fit perfectly without going up a dress size.
Kristina Kacheeva posted a video saying that if you’re having trouble fastening your brand new jeans, all you have to do is toss them in the washing machine along with a regular load.
And the next step? Just put them on – while they’re still wet.

Kristina, who posts under the username @kristinakacheeva, said that taking your jeans out of the washing machine at the end of the cycle and putting them straight on allows you to move and stretch the waistband, making it easier to get up and running once dry.
She said, “Wash your jeans, put them on while they’re still wet. Move to stretch the jeans until you can close them.”
After stretching the denim, Kristina put her jeans in the tumble dryer and was able to easily slip them on when they came out perfectly dry.
The woman’s video has nearly 4,000 likes, and some people admitted they were dying to try the hack for themselves.
One person said, “I have to try this hack. I didn’t know anything about it.”
And the trick is relatively cheap, with Express.co.uk estimating the cost of a wash to be less than 30p – although the exact price will depend on the efficiency of your washing machine.
A 9kg D-rated washing machine will cost you around 23p per cycle, while a more efficient 9kg A-rated washing machine will only cost you 15p.
However, some commenters disagreed with Kristina’s decision to put her jeans in the tumble dryer, as they said drying denim only shrinks them and therefore ruins the progress of stretching the fabric.
Someone remarked, “Don’t dry your jeans, they’ll shrink. Steam or iron them.”
As someone else wrote, “I thought you had to wear them while they were drying for it to work?”
If you do want to put your jeans in the tumble dryer afterwards, it will cost a lot more than just washing, because tumble dryers are known to be one of the most energy-intensive devices in the household.
According to Ideal Home, a vented tumble dryer will cost you £1.50 per cycle, while a condensation tumble dryer is slightly cheaper at £1.46 and a heat pump tumble dryer is a lot less than both at just 60p.
