One woman told how she was “struggling to breathe” due to a stench at her flea-infested council property that she deemed unfit for human habitation.
Sarah Keenan and her disabled partner say the property at Tencreek in Looe is not suitable for anyone to live in.
She said the couple had faced flea bites, a mattress covered in bodily fluids and a stench among other complaints, reports Cornwall Live.
It was too bad they were sleeping on the mattress on the living room floor.
Sarah said: “It was really horrible. The property is littered with fleas, the couch is broken in half, the toilet is disgusting, the bed is black with body fluids and stinks. The bed was horrible and stained with urine and sweat. “

She says the conditions are having an adverse impact on their partner’s mental health.
“My partner is disabled and his mental health is really bad. This only makes it worse. He also has severe epilepsy and this makes his pain even worse,” Sarah continued.
“No one seemed to be able to help and despite calling the council many times I got nowhere. I’m having a hard time breathing here.
“It’s too bad here my daughter came to stay but went back to my mother-in-law because she couldn’t stay here.”

Sarah said she was forced to stay after the landlord sold her private property. She then lived in a sheltered accommodation in Bude before being moved to Tencreek.
According to reports, an employee at Tencreek used a ‘flea bomb’ in one of the rooms, but Sarah said it didn’t help.
She added: “I don’t know how long we’re here but so far there’s been nothing to help and we can’t go on living like this.”
Cornwall Council has been contacted for comment.
