Mexico: Woman shares transformation of homeless man she married after cutting his hair

A woman who cut a homeless man’s hair married him two years later.

Luz Yesenia Geronimo Cerna, from Nuevo San Juan, Michoacán, Mexico, met Juan Mendoza Alvizar in 2009 outside an Oxxo store where he was washing cars.

She spoke to Juan, who was living a rough life at the time, and asked if she could remodel him.

Now the couple’s love story has gone viral on social media site TikTok.

It begins with photos of the store and the surrounding grounds, showing the conditions Juan lived in on the streets.

A picture of Juan at that time is shown, with dirt on his face and unkempt hair.

Luz, 30, then transforms him and helps him with a new and clean haircut to keep him looking clean and fresh.

The clip features photos of her, Juan, 31, and their three children Larissa, 12, Kimberly, nine, and three-year-old Zazil with the couple, who married in 2011.

Luz says in the social media clip that she knew as she suspected when she first met him that they would have a future together and it was clear he would be her husband.

She not only fell in love with Juan, but also with the way he treated and cared for people despite living in a desperate situation.

“It was love at first sight,” Luz said of their first meeting.

“The first thing I saw was the way he treated people.”

She says she was surprised at how the haircut changed his appearance.

“[After cutting his hair] I was a bit surprised – it looked super good.

“Our relationship was good from the start and was what I was looking for. And with his super good family, they tell me they love me like their daughter and that’s how they treat me.”

Juan now works as a bricklayer and repairs cell phones in his spare time.

She says she found exactly what she was looking for when she met Juan.

Luz shared the clip with the caption, “There’s no doubt he who seeks finds, I found the other half I needed with him.”

The place where he lived is remarkably different from where he lives now.

His circumstances have also changed dramatically and he now has a wife and family and is able to work and earn a living to support his offspring.
