A grandmother who became a EuroMillions winner in just 10 minutes is now living in a moldy apartment again.

Margaret De Micheli, 72, thought she had won the life-changing £34million jackpot after being late in checking her lottery tickets.

After purchasing a EuroMillions ticket for the March 29th draw, she went to the post office to check her results and received a slip from the shopkeeper to confirm that she had won the mega jackpot.

However, after being advised to double-check numbers at a nearby Tesco in Swiss Cottage, north London, she received some heartbreaking news.

She had no winning numbers and after contacting the National Lottery, they confirmed her hopes of a pension for her 78-year-old husband had been dashed.

And since then, her husband of 54 years has still not been able to retire because they have to pay utilities for their house.

Her husband has to get to work at 5.15am as he is a traffic cop and doesn’t finish until 4.45pm and living since the heartbreaking fake morning has meant they are still forced to live in a moldy apartment.

She said the exhilaration of believing they’d won the jackpot and then learning they’d be returning to their damp and moldy London flat was particularly devastating.

She told The Sun: “We’re back to normal. My husband is back at work, I wanted to win something so he could afford to retire.

“We would like to move out of the apartment. It’s supposed to be renovated this year, they’re putting in new windows.

“It’s very, very difficult. We would like to move out of the apartment somewhere by the sea.

She confirmed she would like to move to Dorset as they would like to live near the sea and hoped the money would mean her husband could retire.

However, the grandmother has not yet given up hope of winning the jackpot, as she does with Set For Life, the normal lottery and the EuroMillions.

And although she didn’t win the £34million jackpot, she would be happy with £25,000 or something like that for her husband to retire and for them to live comfortably.
