Loose Women panelists were caught up in a heated debate today about ‘erotic fraud’ – with Carol McGiffin and Gloria Hunniford disagreeing.
Four women are discussing how a man – who has been dubbed the UK’s Tinder Scammer – was jailed for four years after he scammed a woman out of £157,000, after crashing his personal on a dating site.
Speaking on the controversial topic, Christine Lampard asked others whether banks should be responsible for helping with the bill.
Carol insists it’s not the paying bank, while Gloria believes otherwise.
“It’s very easy to be skeptical and judgmental about that,” says Gloria.
She went on to explain that she knew a woman who was in a similar situation and had to seek help afterward because it had affected her mental state.
Gloria added: “You drive yourself crazy thinking, ‘How can I do that?'”
Meanwhile, co-star Coleen shared: “You yourself feel stupid. That’s the moment, people will have to say: ‘How can you love that?’ But it was very well done.”
But Carol butts in because she doesn’t agree with either of them.
“I really feel sorry for those women,” Carol began.
She continued: “My heart bleeds for those who have to trust and despair and be alone and whatever.
“But I can’t accept that the bank will pick tabs for it, because those are other customers who are paying for other people’s gullibility and I’m really sorry about that, but I don’t want to pay for it.”
Carol concludes: “If it happened to me, I wouldn’t expect anyone else to pay for it, I would think, ‘Idiot – what have you done?'”
After she said her part, Gloria debated HMRC scams: “People are drawn to fear and debt.”
However, Carol insists it’s “different” and doesn’t seem to see eyes with Gloria.
Panelists Coleen and Christine looked at each other as the two women continued to argue with each other.
Concluding her argument, Gloria advised viewers: “Pay with your credit card, and the bank will always pay you back”.
On Twitter, fans were ripped off as most agreed with Carol, but others criticized Gloria’s ‘stupidity’.
One person wrote: “Wow I really agree with carol. I agree why should someone else pick up the tab and compensate for the stupidity? #loose women. ”
Another wrote: ” #loose women Just because a stupid person decided to send money to someone they have NEVER met, that is their responsibility, not the Bank. Online you have a message before you send money! ”
The third added: ” #loose women If something or someone is too nice to be true and you still love it then no, banks shouldn’t give the bill. Especially if it’s a romance scam. ”
” #loose women Does anyone seriously think ‘I’m down,’ I’m going to give a stranger half a million pounds, Gloria? There must be some element of stupidity involved,” a fourth person argued.
Meanwhile, others pointed out how Coleen and Christine have examined the controversy.
A watch person: “Coleen looked later when carol disagreed with Gloria talking too much and Gloria’s face also thinking that carol really let them down today with their constant disagreement over each topic. #loose women ”
