The world’s longest cruise ship has crashed into dock in Jamaica

The world’s longest cruise ship has crashed into a dock as passengers heard screams in terrifying footage.

Royal Caribbean’s 1,188-foot cruise ship The Harmony of the Seas crashed into a pier in Jamaica.

At the country’s busy north coast port, Falmouth, the cruise ship attempted to dock around 7am Thursday but continued to smash into the dock.

As the ship began to drift towards port, passengers could be heard screaming in a video that has garnered more than half a million views on social media.

“Oh my god,” a woman was heard on video, while another passenger shouted “holy shit.”

Royal Caribbean said in a statement that despite the horrific accident, there were no injuries, but the ship suffered some “cosmetic damage.”

The port was also damaged in the collision as the huge 227,000 ton ship smashed through the pier structure.

Authorities said an investigation was ongoing.

The Harmony holds 6,687 passengers and was launched in 2016.

Despite the accident, the cruise ship was able to continue its voyage without any problems and the passengers continued to enjoy their tour and planned activities.

Falmouth Minister Edmund Bartlett said: “We are now repairing the damaged areas in the port.

“The divers are in now to recover the broken elements and we should be in full order for the ships arriving next week.”

The collision was reportedly a “mistake” by the harbor pilot, as the Harmony’s captain was reportedly misdirected by the harbor pilot.

The Ports of Jamaica Authority said in a statement Friday that it may elect to convene a formal inquiry into the collision with Royal Caribbean and an infrastructure assessment inquiry would be conducted.

The Royal Caribbean ship departed from Port Canaveral, Florida for a seven-day cruise.

On Monday we went to the capital of the Bahamas, Nassau, and on Tuesday to the private island destination of CocoCay.

It was then scheduled to head to Labadee Haiti, another Royal Caribbean private island, before returning to Florida two days later.

The mammoth ship is 1,188 feet long and weighs 226,963 gross tons.

It cost around £1 billion to build and guests can choose from 23 swimming pools and 17 decks and a 1,400-seat theater, all of which can accommodate more than 6,000 guests.

The world’s largest cruise ship, the Wonder of the Seas, weighs around 10,000 tons more than the Harmony.
