Worthing: Cat found safe after thatched cottage burns down
A cat feared dead after a thatched cottage went up in flames has been found safe.
West Sussex Fire and Rescue found the cat named Sid hiding in a bush but he has since been reunited with his owners.
He went missing after the cottage caught fire around 4pm yesterday afternoon
Six fire engines were called to the fire at Pond Lane, Durrington, Worthing.
A fire service spokesman said: “Sid the cat was having an eventful evening when he disappeared in a fire at his home in Durrington last night.

“Luckily our fireman Gavin found him hiding in a bush and safely reunited him with his owners.”
The owner’s other cat was also found safely.
The house was completely destroyed and after the “terrible fire” a fundraiser was set up.

It read: “A local family was unfortunate enough to lose their home and belongings in a terrible fire in Durrington.
“Several firefighters, ambulances and police officers worked for over 7 hours to secure a thatched cottage.
“Thankfully everyone was safe, but with any major house fire, the coming days will be filled with desperation, paperwork and despair.”
Crews from Worthing, Lancing, East Preston, Shoreham and East Sussex crews from Brighton took part.
