Worthing man arrested on suspicion of murder after ‘incident’

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in a downtown apartment.

Police, fire brigade and paramedics have been called to an incident at a flat in Worthing’s Marine Parade yesterday morning where a local woman in her 20s was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts to save her.

An air ambulance was landed on the coast yesterday amid a wide response from emergency services.

A 42-year-old Worthing man has been arrested on suspicion of murder pending the results of a post-mortem and remains in custody.

Sussex Police confirmed the two people knew each other.

Detective Superintendent Alex Geldart said: “I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding as the emergency services responded to this incident.

“A temporary road closure was required to secure the crime scene.

“I can confirm that both parties were known to each other and we are not looking for anyone in connection with the incident.

“This is a rapidly evolving investigation and our investigation is ongoing.”
