He was instantly recognizable as he towered over everyone at 7ft 4in tall.
But it’s not just his height or 35 stone weight that has made French WWE wrestler Andre the Great notable.
He also had a tremendous capacity for drinking beer, once drinking 108 beers in 45 minutes.
And fans from all over the world traveled to get a close-up look at the “eighth wonder of the world”.
The ’70s and ’80s megastar was also known for feuding with legends like Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage and Ted DiBiase.
But behind the scenes, he was also famous for his drinking skills, able to put away remarkable amounts of alcohol in an incredibly short amount of time.

Sadly, the 500-pounder died of heart failure in 1993, with some of his extraordinary drinking habits contributing to his death.
But some of his most incredible drinking stories are told by those who knew him best.
That Daily Star reports that the rivalry between Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant defined WWE in the 1980s.
Hogan revealed Andre had downed more than 100 beers in less than an hour.
He said: “I’m getting a call. “Hey, boss, I’m at the Tampa airport. I have an hour break.«

“I thought, OK, it’s about 15 minutes from my mom’s house. So I drive across the airport and met him at the Delta Crown Lounge.
“When we sat down we had about 45 minutes before he had to go to the next gate. He drank 108 12-ounce (350 ml) beers.”
Amazingly, no one could say he drank the colossal amount of alcohol.
And he would also bring down the atmosphere backstage before stepping into the ring.
Backstage, WWE Producer Gerald Brisco once shared how Andre asked to get him six bottles of wine per fight.

“There are many crazy stories about Andre that sound fake, but most are true, especially his drinking,” Brisco said.
“Andre always asked me to get him six bottles of Mateus wine and fill them with ice.
“He would drink those before we went to the ring and no one could tell. One night in Sarasota, Andre travels with us. So we stop and get two boxes of big boys.
“When we got to the Tahitian Inn on Dale Mabry from Sarasota, the two boxes were bone dry.”
The giant has also made a number of film appearances, including in the cult classic The Princess Bride.

But after filming wrapped, he reportedly received a £33,000 ($40,000) cash register at his hotel with co-star Cary Elwes
He recalled Du Andre ordering what Elwes described as “The American” — a mix of “different spirits.”
We couldn’t even begin to guess what was in this insidious cocktail, but Elwes said it was “chugging like water” to Andre.
“I’ve never tasted jet fuel,” Elwes said.
“But I imagine it comes very close to the taste. It’s actually very strong and I remember coughing a lot. But for him it was like swallowing water.”
On the David Lettermen chat show, the host asked if it was true that he drank 117 beers in one sitting.

Andre nodded and replied, “Yes, one night.”
After asking if he was drunk by the end of the night, Andre laughed and said, “I don’t know, I passed out!”
There have been other clams where the giant actually downed 156 beers in one sitting, making it an unofficial drinking record.
In the same interview, however, Andre said he hadn’t stopped drinking beer for 14 months.
But a fondness for wine remained, he admitted in the interview, and had two or three bottles when he went out.
