Conor McGregor talks sparring return and UFC title ambitions with Jake Paul

WWE stars have taken to social media to poke fun at it Conor McGregor after the UFC star said her squad “feared” him after WrestleMania.

McGregor gained weight Twitter claiming he was too intimidating to appear alongside the likes of Brock Lesnar, Logan Paul and Ronda Rousey at last weekend’s two-day pay-per-view showcase. “Why wasn’t I at Wrestlemania?” McGregor asked fans on Twitter. “They all fear me, that’s why.”

The Irishman, who has long been tipped to switch from his MMA roots to professional wrestling, has a longstanding rivalry with the stars of the sports-entertainment company. And he kept fueling it Fire with his controversial comments on social media over the weekend.

Ex-world heavyweight champion Drew McIntyre revived Khabib Nurmagomedov’s famous catchphrase when he taunted the Irishman with the words “Shut up McTapper”. He wasn’t the only WWE star to tweet McGregor, and a host of other names responded.

Former world champion and renowned collegiate wrestler Dolph Ziggler, real name Nic Nemeth, mocked the Irishman for his height. McGregor has fought his heaviest at 170 pounds, which would be considered tiny by WWE standards, and Nemeth joked that “even I can’t reduce to flyweight.”

His compatriot Sheamus, real name Stephen Farrelly, simply responded with a scissors emoji. But some were actually in favor of the UFC legend moving on to the promotion, with former MMA fighter Sonya Deville offering to get him a match. She tweeted: “Because I’m the f***ing boss. Call me.”

McGregor was also asked to perform next year by Irish star Becky Lynch, who lost her Raw women’s championship to Bianca Belair. She responded to his statement by saying, “Hey man. I could have used you Bianca brought an army with her. Next year?”

He would have been one of many fighters to compete if he had taken the stage in Dallas over the weekend. Paul won his tag team match when he teamed with The Miz against Rey Mysterio and Dominick Mysterio, but he was the only fighter to achieve a win, with Lesnar defeating Roman Reigns and Rousey defeating Charlotte in their respective world championship bouts flair lost.

The Irishman has long been touted for a possible move to professional wrestling due to his colorful attitude and trash talk. But he’s currently focused on getting fit for a return to the UFC octagon later this year after suffering a broken leg against Dustin Poirier last year.

He is aiming for a shot at welterweight champion Kamaru Usman but must first return to full contact sparring, which is expected later this month. He is currently in boxing training at Crumlin Boxing Club where he can hit pads but is not yet fully trained.
