There might be more alien fans than cowboys.

Yellowstone is one of the most popular TV shows in America, yet a TV series adaptation of a famous video game has garnered more views: Halo was the number one show on Paramount+ in 2022. The news comes via the Wall Street Journal, which you can see tweeted by The Game Awards below.

This wasn’t a fair match between aliens and cowboys, as Halo has a huge following who have wanted to see their favorite video game adapted as a fictional storytelling show with its own mysteries and secrets. Executive producer Kiki Wolfkill revealed that the story of the TV series was separated from the video game franchise to allow both canons to change and evolve individually. Unfortunately, fans who have seen the series called it a disappointing adaptation.

Halo tells the story of an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant. Created by Steven Kane (The Last Ship) and Kyle Killen (Awake), the show opens with Pablo Schreiber (Den of Thieves), Shabana Azmi (24), Natasha Culzac (Maldita), Olive Gray (Half Moon Investigations), Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo) and Natasha McElhone (Californication).

Surprisingly, this TV show is one of the exceptions that got better ratings from critics Rotten tomatoes, 70% when the audience rated it only 52%. These viewer ratings may reveal what most Halo video game fans think of this adaptation.

Season 2 of Halo is already in production and will feature more adventures from Master Chief Petty Officer John-117, Riz-028, Vannak-134 and the rest of the Silver Team Spartans.

You can watch Halo on Paramount+.
