Former RTÉ broadcaster Charlie Bird said two checks will be given to two charities as a result of the Climb with Charlie fundraiser this week as he thanked supporters.
Taking to social media, he wrote: “Good news this is a big week for everyone who has supported Climb With Charlie. We present the two aid organizations with two checks, each for well over one and a half million euros.
“I wish I could hug each and every one of you. You have all helped me so much during this dark time in my life,” he said.
On Saturday April 2nd Mr Bird reached the summit of Croagh Patrick in Co Mayo to raise funds for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta.
Thousands of people took part in over 200 Climb with Charlie fundraisers around the world.
The charity drive was led by the broadcaster who was diagnosed with motor neuron disease last year.
