Fake eye contact

Your iPhone has a nifty tool that makes it appear like you’re staring directly at the other caller during FaceTime chats.

The setting cleverly changes your face in real-time, making it appear as if you’re looking straight into the front-facing camera rather than your screen.

The feature, called Facetime Attention Correction, helps make calls with family and friends feel a little more personal.

To enable it, go to Settings > Facetime > Eye Contact. You can turn the tool on or off as you wish.

When enabled, your iPhone will automatically adjust your eye line when you’re having a Facetime conversation.

How to become an Animoji or Memoji

You can swap out your face with an Animoji or Memoji.

Animoji are Apple’s own animated 3D emojis that you can transform into things like a cat or a dragon.

And Memoji are the Animoji you create yourself, designed to look just like you – but in cartoon form.

When you transform into an Animoji, iPhone maps and tracks your face to match your movements.

To do this, follow these steps:

  • 1. During the FaceTime call, tap the curved five-pointed star
  • 2. Then tap on the Memoji head
  • 3. You can then swipe through the characters and select one

The other participants in the conversation will hear your words, but will see your Animoji speak instead of your real face.

Use filters on FaceTime

It’s also possible to use filters on FaceTime to change your look.

These work just like similar filters or lenses you would find on Instagram or Snapchat.

Join a FaceTime video call, then tap the screen.

Then tap the curvy five-pointed star.

Next, tap on the three overlapping circles – one is red, one is green, and one is blue.

This will open a list of filters, and you can select one – or swipe left or right to preview it.

These filters also work over your Memoji.

How to add a text caption during FaceTime

You can add a text label that says what you want – and then position it on the screen.

To do this, tap the screen and then tap the curvy five-pointed star.

Then tap the “Aa” icon and then select the text caption.

With the label selected, simply enter the text you want to appear (possibly a job title), then tap away from it.

You can then drag the label to where you want it.

To delete the label, just tap on it and then X.
