SLUGGISH browsing is an undesirable affair – but there’s a trick that can help.
If like most people, you feel guilty leaving some tabs open, this is where you start to experience speed difficulties.
It’s hard to avoid when you see something that you might be interested in coming back to later.
Sure, you can bookmark it but then you might forget it even exists or lose the point you were there.
Leaving tabs open consumes a lot of performance power for browsers like Chrome, and it only gets worse the more you open them and leave them in the background.
Thankfully, there’s something that can shed some of the weight.
A free extension for Chrome called Automatically cancel tabs claims to increase speed and reduce memory load from all those open tabs.
It’s lightweight, so won’t accidentally get things working, and automatically offloads the memory of open but inactive tabs.
Best of all, when you open a tab that has deactivated backups, everything goes the way you left it.
So any half filled forms will be restored as before.
And if you’ve scrolled halfway down the page, it’ll bring you back to where you were.
You can also whitelist some sites so they won’t be dropped if you need them to be up and running.
More than 80,000 people have used the Chrome extension.
So if you’re having a nightmare Chrome running slow, you should give it a try and see if it speeds things up.
