You can finally fix your own iPhone without going to the Apple Store

APPLE is finally letting Brits fix their own iPhones for the first time.

The tech giant has always asked that iPhone owners get repairs from authorized tech experts — but that has changed as of today.

Apple started letting regular customers do their own repairs in the US earlier this year.

And it’s available as a service in the UK and Europe from today.

This means you can avoid paying costly labor fees for someone to fix your iPhone.

But it’s not for Technology Beginner: For most people, going to an Apple Store or other authorized repair facility is much safer.

If you’re tech-savvy and determined to fix your own device, Apple has plenty of support for you.

With Self Service Repair, you have access to official repair manuals, genuine Apple parts and tools, and discounts for returning replaced parts.

“We believe that the best technology for our customers and for the planet is long-lasting technology, which is why we design our products to last and rarely require maintenance or repair,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer.

“But when a repair is needed, we want customers to have many options for a safe and reliable repair.

“That’s why we’re excited to launch Self Service Repair in Europe, giving our customers direct access to genuine Apple parts, tools and manuals.”

The first step is to read the online repair guide for your device.

Then you can order the parts and tools you need.

You enter a unique code from the repair manual to show you’ve looked at it.

And then choose which bits you actually need.

There is a loan option for the tools (free of charge) – if you don’t want to pay full price. A full purchase costs £54.90.

However, you have to pay a terminal fee for the spare parts, because of course they cannot be rented.

Once your equipment has arrived, repair your device.

If you have rented a tool set, you have seven days to do so.

It is also possible to use your own tools for this.

Finally, return all the pieces you placed. If you do, you’ll get a discount, so be sure to consider it.

Keep in mind that most iPhone owners should simply take their devices to the nearest Apple Store when they need repairs.

However, if you’re tech-savvy and want a challenge (and want to save some money), you might consider repairing your own device.
