How to use Alexa to make a call through an Echo smart speaker
It is very easy to call a smartphone or a house number via Alexa on your home WiFi.
You must have set up the contact in your Alexa app and then you can say, “Alexa, call.” [name]”.
You can also tell Alexa whether you want to call a contact “home” or “work,” and you can even say a cell phone number out loud if you haven’t saved the contact.
Your Alexa app will also show you which contacts have Echo devices that you can call.
Alexa can’t call the following:
- emergency services
- dial-by-letter numbers
- premium numbers
- Three-digit numbers
When you receive a call, your speaker should glow green and a ringtone will sound.
Alexa tells you who’s calling and you can answer or ignore verbally or through your app.
If you have multiple Alexa smart speakers, you can make them all ring by setting all calls to come through your app instead.
In the UK, EE and Vodafone users can bring incoming calls to their smartphone through an Alexa speaker.
Your handset will ring and you can get Alexa to answer with a verbal prompt instead.
Set this up in your Alexa app via Settings then Communications.
