‘You know what’s coming but it’s pretty hard to stop’ – Scotland’s Matt Fagerson ready for ‘confrontation’ with Ireland

Matt Fagerson swore that he and his Scotland teammates would rally together and work to their fullest potential in the final Guinness Six Nations game in Dublin.

concerned are looking to lead France to the championship when they take on Scotland on Saturday but Gregor Townsend’s men have a point to prove after trying to build on their opening win over England.

The defeats to Wales and France were followed by a 33-22 victory in Rome but the late Italian surge was a warning for Scotland ahead of their trip to Aviva.

“We are focusing on ourselves this week,” said Fageron. We knew it was going to be a huge challenge. They’re playing for the championship and being at home, they’re going to want to give their all going forward.

“But focusing on ourselves, what we do well, really coming together as a team, will be very important to us.

“There’s a feeling around the team that we still have a lot to deliver, so I think it’s going to be important for people to come together and stick together as a team.”

Glasgow’s forwards think Rome’s belated problems can be quickly remedied.

“In attack we had some really good breaks and really hustled with the boys supporting each other,” said the 23-year-old.

“Sometimes we can get a little frantic in our system and come back and be ready to play. We’ll clear that up this week.

“The last 15 minutes – from a defensive standpoint – were pretty disappointing to let those two attempts happen late in the game. They are fixes that we can make.

“Credit to the Italians, they played pretty well that last quarter, but those are things that we can fix.”

Fageron is used to wearing Ireland teams in the United Rugby Championship and knows he will face a tough test.

“Playing Leinsters, Munsters, Ulster and your stuff, those are pretty cool head-to-head teams,” he added. “You know what they’re going to bring but they do it too well.

“Their game plan is pretty oriented and they’re pretty good at it and they have some great coaches, too.
