For many people, starting the day by making the bed is part of the daily routine.
However, one cleaning expert explained that it’s actually a bad idea to make the bed first – as it increases the chances of dust mites settling on the sheets.
“You should never make your bed first thing in the morning,” wrote Cleanhome_cleanmind on TikTok, over a videotapes of someone making the bed.
In the caption, they further explain: “Letting your bed air out (for at least 1 hour) is a good solution to reducing the number of dust mites.”
Viewers quickly turned to the comments section to weigh in on the potentially controversial suggestion, with one piece reading: “My mom always said ‘an over-the-counter bed is a healthy bed’.”
“Let it breathe, let it breathe,” another commented.
“I open all the windows every morning and roll the duvet to the bottom,” added a third.
“I watched a show about bedbugs almost getting sick!! Don’t ever make my bed now.”
“My bed is never made until I’m ready for bed….,” wrote another. “Guess I’m doing something right.”
“I was so upset with my Mom and Grandma for not making my bed when I was with her. I just need to open my window and she’ll get mad at SOOOO,” another woman added.
Others joked that the advice was a good way to excuse the fact that they were never ready for bed in the morning.
“I guess I don’t feel so bad anymore because I barely have time in the morning as a busy mom,” laughs one mom.
