You washed your cup all wrong

IF YOU have a favorite cup that you regularly empty, it is bound to be covered with strong tea or coffee stains that seem unshakeable.

That could be because you often have to brew a beer on the go and often just rinse the cup instead of scrubbing it thoroughly.

But no matter how you’re washing the cup, it turns out you’re doing it wrong.

Brown stains don’t look good so here’s how to get rid of them.

Express.co.uk chatted with Dri-Pak to find a way to remove tea and coffee stains from cups, so listen up.

Tannins, or tannic acids, are what give tea and coffee their brown color, but they are also used as an agent for dyes.

While tannins are fairly harmless to your body, they are what stain your teeth AND your cup.

Black, green and herbal teas are the main culprits and can cause your teeth to yellow or discolor if you drink them too often.

The same applies to coffee.

If you’ve noticed that brown stains have built up in your favorite mug over time, the experts at Dri Pak “Throw away the scouring pad as it won’t tackle the stain – it will be too much hassle and time consuming and won’t make a huge difference,” says.

According to experts, there is a miracle product that will do the job here.

“You just need one cheap and cheerful product to do the job: soda crystals,” the experts say.

Soda crystals are white odorless crystals made up of hydrated sodium carbonate.

When dissolved in water, these crystals form an alkaline solution that is great for removing stains and grease.

You can buy soda crystals as cheap as 80p from Ocado, so you don’t need to worry about buying expensive cleaning products here.

So, if your favorite mug needs a little TLC, all you need to do is fill it with hot water and some soda crystals.

Let the solution soak for at least half an hour (preferably overnight) and then wipe the stain with a towel or brush.

If your mug has been seriously damaged by enjoying hot drinks and this doesn’t remove all the stains, do it again and your stains will be gone!
