Young Irishman stranded in Canada after ‘complete shock’ cancer diagnosis sent people begging to return home in despair

A young Irish man stranded in Canada begged for help desperately after being diagnosed with cancer “in complete shock”.
Luke Markey is currently at St Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, receiving treatment so he is stable enough to return to his family in Dublin but he finds mounting bills “very expensive”.
The 23-year-old will immediately begin active treatment to beat his Cancer when he returns home.
Luke’s friends have set up a fundraising campaign with a goal of 70,000 CAD to help the “vibrant” and “popular” young man who has made Vancouver his home for the past year and a half after moving. to the city in 2020.
Campaign organizer Kristine said: “On January 14, 2022, Luke was diagnosed with B-cell non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
‘VERY POPULAR’
“His bubbly personality has made him very popular in the community and has stuck with many of you by more than a liter in his natural habitat, known as the Donnelanns.
“When he’s not out with his friends, you can see him running along the breakwater or making an impact on Wreck Beach.
“Luke’s treatment has so far proven very expensive and is expected to increase dramatically in the coming days.

“Please help Luke and his family in any way you can. It’s going to be a long journey ahead, and we all hope that the financial burden is one they won’t need to worry about. “
Luke is still waiting to hear from the doctors, who will determine when he can make the trip back to Dublin.
The Wexford woman added: “It’s been a long couple of days but we’re getting there little by little. It’s just one of those terrible situations.
TREATMENT NEEDED ASAP
“We have no words but it is clear that treatment needs to be started as soon as possible but the main goal is to get him home as soon as possible so the doctors can clear him up.”
The campaign raised a whopping $25,893 CAD in less than 24 hours but is still a long way from its goal.
Kristine added: “He has so many great people around him in Vancouver, so he’s not alone and has always had endless love and support for him.
THROUGH DIAGNOSIS
WHAT ARE NO HODGKINS LYMPHOMA CELLS?
LYMPHOMA is a cancer of the lymphatic system, part of the body’s defense network against germs.
According to MayoClinic, in non-Hodgkin lymphoma, white blood cells called lymphocytes grow abnormally and can form tumors (tumors) throughout the body.
B-cell lymphoma is a rare cancer that starts in white blood cells and attacks the skin.
It may form as a nodule under the skin that may be the same color as your skin or may be pink or purple.
Treatment options may include radiation therapy, surgery to remove the cancer, or chemotherapy.
“The most powerful thing anyone can do is share a campaign across all forms of social media. We want to keep the word there and not let it fade away and be forgotten in a day. So if people can post it every day and share it and get word.
“We are working on it here and the bars in Ireland here will be raising funds and various events for him in the coming days. We just really want people to keep sharing it and make as many people aware of it as possible.
‘HE IS SMALL’
“We thank everyone for all the love and support and messages he has received. He’s still smiling, and he’s just overwhelmed by the support he’s received within a day. On behalf of Luke, we just thank everyone so far.”
Everyone can donate to GoFundMe to bring Luke back home to Dublin and fund his current treatment.
