Young woman who died after St Patrick’s Day horror accident remembered as ‘beautiful young soul’


A young woman who died in a traffic accident on St. Patrick’s Day was remembered as a “beautiful young soul”.

Racey Moran, from Ballina, Co Mayo, died at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar, on Friday morning surrounded by her loving family.

Tracey, who was in her 20s, had been injured when her car crashed into a brick wall on the L5243 in Knocknalower, Pullathomas in Co Mayo at 11.15pm the night before.

A notice on states that Tracey, from Milltown, Glenamoy, Ballina, has died following a tragic accident.

“She passed away peacefully at Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar on March 18 surrounded by her loving family,” the statement said.

“Beloved daughter of Eamon and Anne and dear sister of Michelle O’Donnell (Porturlin), Louise Moran (Lenerevagh, Glenamoy), Thomas (Milltown, Glenamoy) and Rebecca (Milltown, Glenamoy).

“She is heartbroken by her heartbroken family, brothers-in-law Jonathan and Brendan, partner of Thomas Shannon, partner of Rebecca Kevin, her partner Liam, esteemed nieces and nephews Seán Óg, Séimí, Aodh, Donagh, Cúan, TJ and Zoe be missed. Uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives, neighbors and many friends.”

Funeral arrangements will be announced later and donations can be made to the Irish Coastguard.

In the condolences section, people have left numerous condolences.

“Deepest condolences to you all on the tragic loss of your beautiful daughter,” one wrote.

“May Tracey rest in peace with the angels in heaven.”

“So incredibly sorry to hear the devastating news – worked at Specsavers with Tracey a beautiful girl – sincere condolences to her entire family RIP,” read another.

“I am deeply saddened to hear of Tracey’s untimely passing. I worked with Tracey a few years ago, a pretty girl. My deepest condolences to all of her family and friends. May she rest in peace.”

Another person wrote: “My heartfelt condolences to the Moran and Ruddy family. May her gentle soul rest in peace.”

Someone else said, “A beautiful young soul taken so, so young.

“Tracey rest in peace and we always see that bright star shining in the sky. God comfort your dear family.”

Gardai is appealing to anyone with information about the collision to get in touch.

A spokesman said: “Gardaí in Mayo is appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on Thursday March 17, 2022.

“Around 11.15pm Gardaí were made aware of a single vehicle collision in road traffic, where a car was said to have struck a wall on the L5243 at Knocknalower, Pullathomas in Co Mayo.

“A woman in her 20s was taken to Mayo University Hospital for treatment of her injuries before later passing away.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash cam) and who were in the area at the time are asked to provide such footage to the Gardaí investigation.
